The editor

The editor opens one manuscript at a time. Its binder contains that manuscript's chapters or other project-specific document units.

Open the right manuscript

The top-bar switcher shows the current Project / Manuscript. Select it to move between projects or between manuscripts in the same project. Canon, References, settings, and history belong to the project; the binder and word target belong to the open manuscript.

Binder

• Select a chapter to open it.
• Use + for a blank chapter.
• Use the import button to add chapters from Word, Markdown, or plain text.
• Drag chapters to reorder them.
• Right-click a chapter to rename it, change its status, or archive it.
• Check the manuscript total and each chapter's word count in the binder.

Writing and saving

Select the writing surface and type normally. The chapter saves to the local workspace first. The top bar reports states such as Saved locally, Synced, Offline, or Reconnecting.

Undo and redo apply to the open editing session. For older project states, use History & restore rather than browser undo.

The inspector

The right-side inspector keeps writing context and review tools beside the manuscript:

• Scenes context for the passage around the cursor;
• Canon facts relevant to the project;
• open Critic findings and their evidence;
• proposed edits; and
• Ask.

Open Scenes while drafting to keep the current cast, events, story time, setting, relevant objects or threads, and intersecting continuity questions in view. It follows explicit scene breaks and reads the last completed analysis; it does not start work on each keystroke. See Scenes.

Collapse the inspector when you need more writing space. Drag its divider to change its width. At narrow window sizes, labels condense to icons while their accessible names remain available.

Focus and comfort

Focus mode hides the binder and intelligence panel. Typewriter scrolling keeps the active line at a comfortable position while you type. The theme button in the left sidebar switches instantly between Parchment, Light, and Dark.

Typeface, text size, line spacing, and paragraph spacing affect only your writing view. Export typography is configured separately in the export dialog.

Set your defaults under Settings → Writing experience. The theme control in the left rail changes between Parchment, Light, and Dark immediately.

Collaboration and permissions

When collaborators open the same chapter, their presence appears in the top bar and their selections may appear in the manuscript. Changes merge as people work. Viewers cannot edit; commenters and editors receive the controls allowed by their project role.

Offline and collaboration

You can keep writing through a connection loss. Changes wait on the current device and synchronize when the connection returns. Features that need current connected project data may wait, but the manuscript editor remains available. See Saving, sync, and offline work.

Keyboard and pointer access

Standard shortcuts work for undo, redo, cut, copy, paste, select all, bold, italic, and underline. Right-click the manuscript for an editor menu that also includes relevant finding or proposed-edit actions when the pointer is over a highlight.
