Saving, sync, and offline work
Enspeller saves manuscript changes on the current device first and synchronizes them when a connection is available. The status in the top bar tells you what is happening.
Understand the status
- Saved locally means the current device has stored the change.
- Syncing means local changes or project metadata are being sent.
- Synced means the connected project copy has caught up.
- Offline · saved locally means you can keep writing; connection-dependent work will resume later.
- Collaboration reconnecting means the live chapter connection is being restored. Local editing remains available.
- Metadata sync retrying means a project, chapter, title, status, or similar workspace update is waiting to retry.
After importing a manuscript or starting Critic, a separate preparation strip may briefly appear because analysis and search are catching up. Routine edits update that index quietly in the background. Neither state delays local saving.
Work offline
You can open locally available chapters, edit prose, use manuscript formatting, and continue local undo while offline. Pending changes synchronize when the connection returns.
Features that require connected project data may wait, including new analysis, Reference indexing, invitations, billing changes, and some history operations. Their temporary unavailability does not prevent manuscript editing.
Collaborate safely
When several people edit the same chapter, Enspeller merges their changes. Presence indicators show who is currently in the chapter. If one collaborator goes offline, their saved local changes merge after reconnecting.
Avoid intentionally making incompatible large rewrites to the same sentences on several offline devices. The text can merge correctly at the data level while still requiring an editorial review of the combined result.
Before analysis or export
- For analysis, wait for Synced so the requested review sees the latest available manuscript revision.
- For export, make sure every intended chapter is available on the current device and confirm the binder order.
- Before a major revision or restore, create a manual point under Critic → History & restore → Restore.
If sync is taking longer than expected
- Keep the tab or desktop app open and confirm the device is online.
- Open the affected chapter and wait for the reconnecting status to settle.
- If an import or Critic preparation strip is still visible, remember that it is separate from prose saving.
- Avoid repeatedly refreshing while the status is actively progressing.
- If the same retry state persists, capture the status text and contact support before clearing browser data or reinstalling.
WARNING
Do not clear browser storage to troubleshoot an offline or unsynced manuscript. Doing so can remove the device's local copy before it has synchronized.
