Revision comparison
Revision comparison answers: What changed between a restore point and the current manuscript? It summarizes scale and location without displaying a line-by-line historical prose diff.
Compare revisions
- Open Critic → Revision comparison.
- Choose a baseline restore point.
- Select Compare with current.
- Review the manuscript totals and chapter-level change signals.
Daily, import, pre-analysis, and manual restore points can be used as baselines. If no useful baseline exists, create a manual point under History & restore before beginning the next revision.
Read the comparison
The summary can show:
- baseline and current word counts with net change;
- added, removed, changed, and unchanged chapters;
- added, removed, changed, moved, and unchanged blocks inside each chapter; and
- findings detected, closed, or marked intentional since the baseline.
A moved block is counted separately from a text change where possible. Counts help locate revision effort; they do not explain whether a change improved the manuscript.
What comparison does not do
Revision comparison does not create branches, merge drafts, restore text, or show historical sentences. Use Critic → History & restore for recovery, and use a separate manuscript when you need a genuinely independent draft.
Sync and freshness
Comparison reflects the latest synced manuscript state. Offline changes appear after synchronization. If recent work is missing from the totals, wait for Synced, refresh the comparison, and run it again.
