Troubleshooting

Start with the exact status or error shown in Enspeller. The steps below cover the most common recoverable situations without risking manuscript data.

A manuscript will not open

  1. Return to Home and open the project, then the intended manuscript.
  2. If you are offline, confirm the manuscript was previously opened on this device.
  3. If the project belongs to a team, confirm you still have project access.
  4. Keep the application open while a reconnecting or hydration status is progressing.

Changes appear unsynced

Continue working only on the current device until it reconnects. Do not clear site data, delete the desktop workspace, or make an independent replacement copy unless support directs you to do so. See Saving, sync, and offline work.

A Critic pass or answer is delayed

  • Wait for manuscript sync to complete.
  • Check Settings → Usage & plan for remaining allowance.
  • Confirm the project's analysis mode and relevant engines under Settings → Critic.
  • Background work may remain queued while other project work completes.
  • Retry a failed task from its own surface; do not duplicate one that still says it is running.

A result seems wrong

Open every citation and compare the result with the manuscript context. Check whether the evidence is stale, the story uses an intentional contradiction, or a Reference conflicts with confirmed Canon. Resolve, mark intentional, edit Canon, or provide finding feedback as appropriate.

An import split chapters incorrectly

Cancel before confirming, then review the structure again. Rename detected sections, merge false boundaries, or split a large section at the correct heading or scene break. The original file is unchanged.

A Reference is pending or failed

Reconnect and open Canon → References. Select the Reference and retry indexing. Confirm the file is supported and the account has available analysis capacity. Archiving and re-adding should be a last resort because it creates a new Reference record.

Export does not match the editor view

Writing-view typography is intentionally separate from export styling. Open Export typography for supported Word settings. For the most faithful round-trip structure, choose Review copy .docx.

Microphone or playback is unavailable

  • Confirm Voice is available under Settings → Voice & audio.
  • Allow microphone access for the browser or desktop app.
  • Check the remaining voice allowance.
  • Use text Discourse if recording or playback is unavailable.

A team member cannot see a project

Team membership and project access are separate. A project owner must add the member under Settings → Project access. The assigned project role cannot exceed the member's team role.

Before contacting support

Record:

  • the current workspace, project, and manuscript names;
  • the exact visible status or error message;
  • whether you are using the browser or desktop app;
  • whether the issue happens on another connection or device; and
  • the action immediately before the problem.

Do not send manuscript text, account passwords, authentication codes, or full payment details unless an authorized support process explicitly requires a specific excerpt.
