Critic findings

Critic looks for possible continuity, character, and structural issues. Each finding is anchored to manuscript evidence.

Run Critic

Select Run Critic in the top bar to check recent manuscript changes now. It uses the incremental path: Enspeller analyzes changed evidence and the context needed to verify it, without re-reading unchanged chapters. If nothing has changed, it does not spend credits on a model call.

For a complete re-evaluation, open Critic → Findings and select Full manuscript pass. The page shows the manuscript word count and higher-credit warning, and asks for confirmation before starting. A full pass re-reads the available manuscript revision and can use many times more credits than checking recent changes. Reserve it for large revisions or deliberate whole-book review. Both actions run in the background, so you may continue writing or leave the view while they run.

The three engines focus on different questions:

• Continuity checks chronology, locations, objects, and narrative logic.
• Character & Lore checks established traits, motivations, relationships, and world rules.
• Structure checks pacing movement, scene shape, setup and payoff, and transitions.

Project settings let you enable engines and adjust sensitivity. Higher sensitivity can surface more possibilities, including more items that you may decide are intentional. Source-verified findings are retained, so changing sensitivity reveals or hides them immediately without running Critic again.

Read a finding

• Established shows what the manuscript previously made true.
• Violated shows the passage that may conflict with it.
• Impact indicates how disruptive the possible issue may be. It controls sensitivity breadth but never substitutes for source verification.

Select an evidence excerpt to jump to its location in the manuscript. A highlight in the editor can also open the finding through the right-click menu.

Decide what it means

• Resolve after correcting or otherwise settling the issue.
• Intentional records a deliberate contradiction or device so it is not raised again as the same problem.
• Ask opens a grounded conversation about the evidence.

When a finding includes a proposed change, it appears in Edits for review.

Resolved and intentional findings remain part of project history. If later edits materially change the same evidence, a future pass may surface a new finding.

Filter and prioritize

Use engine, status, and severity filters to narrow the list. Start with open, high-severity items, but treat severity as impact if the finding is valid—not as proof that it is valid.

If a pass cannot start

• Wait for the manuscript to finish syncing.
• Check Settings → Usage & plan for remaining allowance and scope.
• Confirm at least one Critic engine is enabled in Settings → Critic.
• For a full manuscript pass, review the displayed scope and credit warning before confirming.
• If a previous pass failed, retry after the status changes out of running.
